Sarah Crowner-Research for Archival Perspective


Sarah Crowner is an American painter best known for her geometric abstrations that evoke the style of hard-edge painting of the 1950s and 60s. Crowner creates paintings by sewing together angular pieces of already painted canvas and linen. This method emerged from her impatience with the medium.In an interview from an article from the New York Observer, Crowner states that "sewing made sense at first because it was a way of cutting up, collaging, reorganizing and re-constructing in a practical way."She also creates small ceramic works in neutral color palettes and that have more organic shapes.

The Cremaster Cycle  is a series of five feature-length films, together with related sculptures, photographs, drawings, and artist's books, created by American visual artist and filmmaker Matthew Barney . The Cremaster Cycle  was made over a period of eight years (1994–2002) and culminated in a major museum exhibition organized by Nancy Spector of the Solomon R. 'Prisons' by Giovanni Battista Piranesi--research in Architecture

Giovanni Battista   Piranesi  ( 4 October 1720 – 9 November 1778) was an Italian artist famous for his etchings  of Rome  and of fictitious and atmospheric "prisons" ( Le Carceri d'Invenzione ). The  Prisons  ( Carceri d'invenzione  or 'Imaginary Prisons'), is a series of 16 prints produced in first and second states that show enormous subterranean vaults with stairs and mighty machines. These images influenced Romanticism  and Surrealism . While the Vedutisti  (or "view makers") such as Canaletto  and Bellotto , more often reveled in the beauty of the sunlit place, in Piranesi this vision takes on what from a modern perspective could be called a Kafkaesque  distortion, seemingly erecting fantastic labyrinthine structures, epic in volume. There are so many contrasts in modern society: people from two sides of the world can be connected easily through social media, but we are not communicating with our neighbors any more; we can know how a place far from us looks like by searching videos and images, however, we will have to use Google map to find a place very close to us; we invent very advanced camera in order to capture the details of the world to the most authenticity, but meanwhile we use Photoshop, beauty modes to conceal our original and natural appearance...Is everything working for their initial purpose, or completely diverting to the opposite?
