Giorgio Morandi - Research for Archival Perspective


Giorgio Morandi  was an Italian painter and printmaker who specialized in still life. His paintings are noted for their tonal subtlety in depicting apparently simple subjects, which were limited mainly to vases, bottles, bowls, flowers and landscapes.

Throughout his career, Morandi concentrated almost exclusively on still lifes and landscapes, except for a few self-portraits. With great sensitivity to tone, color, and compositional balance, he would depict the same familiar bottles and vases again and again in paintings notable for their simplicity of execution. A prolific painter, he completed some 1350 oil paintings.He also executed 133 etchings, a significant body of work in its own right, and his drawings and watercolors often approach abstraction in their economy of means. He explained: "What interests me most is expressing what’s in nature, in the visible world, that is".

The Cremaster Cycle  is a series of five feature-length films, together with related sculptures, photographs, drawings, and artist's books, created by American visual artist and filmmaker Matthew Barney . 'Prisons' by Giovanni Battista Piranesi--research in Architecture

Giovanni Battista   Piranesi  ( 4 October 1720 – 9 November 1778) was an Italian artist famous for his etchings  of Rome  and of fictitious and atmospheric "prisons" ( Le Carceri d'Invenzione ). The  Prisons  ( Carceri d'invenzione  or 'Imaginary Prisons'), is a series of 16 prints produced in first and second states that show enormous subterranean vaults with stairs and mighty machines. These images influenced Romanticism  and Surrealism . While the Vedutisti  (or "view makers") such as Canaletto  and Bellotto , more often reveled in the beauty of the sunlit place, in Piranesi this vision takes on what from a modern perspective could be called a Kafkaesque  distortion, seemingly erecting fantastic labyrinthine structures, epic in volume. There are so many contrasts in modern society: people from two sides of the world can be connected easily through social media, but we are not communicating with our neighbors any more; we can know how a place far from us looks like by searching videos and images, however, we will have to use Google map to find a place very close to us; we invent very advanced camera in order to capture the details of the world to the most authenticity, but meanwhile we use Photoshop, beauty modes to conceal our original and natural appearance...Is everything working for their initial purpose, or completely diverting to the opposite?
